Career Mentorship

The Career Mentorship Program will take place on the day of the ML4H Symposium, December 4th, and will focus on pairing mentees with mentors who can provide advice on career-related topics (e.g. developing a long-term research plan, doing healthcare research in industry, work-life balance). The primary expectations of the program are that (1) mentors will meet with mentees for an hour during the ML4H Symposium and provide advice on the topics of interest and (2) mentees will prepare in-advance questions for the mentors.

We especially encourage less experienced attendees to sign up as mentees, as well as senior community members to serve as mentors for these programs.

If you are interested in participating in the career mentorship program as a mentor/mentee please sign up using the following forms:

Deadline: November 15th AoE, 2021.

Mentors and mentees will be matched based on time availability and selected topics of expertise/interest for providing and receiving mentorship respectively. We will aim to match each mentor with 3-4 mentees. Each group of mentor and mentees will be assigned a specific time slot and table/room in Gather.Town when they are expected to meet during the ML4H Symposium.

We aim to gather a diverse pool of mentees and mentors. Please share broadly and do not hesitate to sign up if you are from an under-represented group in the field!

Mentees

Mentees are expected to:

  1. Prepare questions/topics of discussion with the mentors.
  2. Participate in the career mentorship program for one hour during the ML4H Symposium.
  3. Abide by the Code of Conduct.

Mentors

Mentors are expected to:

  1. Read the resources provided for mentors.
  2. Participate in the career mentorship program for one hour during the ML4H Symposium.
  3. Abide by the Code of Conduct.

Timeline

  • November 15th: Deadline for applying to participate in the ML4H Career Mentorship Program.
  • November 15th - November 20th: Mentor/mentees pair-ups are sent out.
  • December 4th: Participate in the Career Mentorship Program at an assigned slot for one hour in Gather.Town.

Code of Conduct

By participating in the Career Mentorship Program, we expect mentors and mentees to abide by the ML4H Code of Conduct. To report any violations of the Code of Conduct, please contact ml4h.2021@gmail.com.
